Research Areas

Research at the Centre applies the tools and perspectives in the social sciences to study rural regions and communities. Our academic activities are organized into three main subject areas:

  • Local community, rural life, culture
  • Resource management, environment, landscape
  • Business development, agriculture, value chains of food

Our activities involve contract research that is financed by the Research Council of Norway, government departments, organizations, commerce and industry, among others. The Centre for Rural Research shares the national responsibility for maintaining and developing basic research competence in rural sociology and interdisciplinary rural studies.
